How To Design an Alternative CV on Prezi [INTERESTING EXAMPLE] “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results” Albert Einstein   I have always thought about doing something different, but that meant that I had to leave my comfort zone and that’s not always easy. So I decided to leave my comfort zone and move to another country, learn a new language and experience a different culture. I soon realized that I would need a new approach for standing out in the crowd.  And that became my goal to achieve. I consider myself an out-of-the-box thinker, even though I spent a lot of time tailoring a standard CV, I felt that it was so impersonal, dull and simply not engaging. With the technological evolution of the Internet and the failing economy, I needed something more visual that would keep the employers reading and wanting to know more. The CV is the best personal marketing tool, my goal was clear: make an `alternative ´ CV, one that captures the reader’s attention and curiosity, then tell my story, who I am and where I come from. Why did I choose Prezi? It turned out that one of my friends who is in the presentation used the programme and told me about it. I manage quite well with PowerPoint but it does not convey exactly what I wanted, I was looking for originality, movement and innovation. Prezi is super intuitive, and you don ´t need to be an IT expert to figure out how you should use it. It has a friendly use. Also it has an excellent community support and forums where people share their tricks for using it effectively. Creative CV for a non-creatives? I have seen some creative CVs before, but it’s always by graphic designers. What about people looking for jobs outside that field? Im a marketer and I believe this tool could be useful for me as well. I’ve managed to create my CV as I used to do with a proper product or service. I made up my own marketing plan, answering questions such as; who I am, what I do, who is my target, and how do I plan to get their attention. Its a combination of a good planning and execution. Let me add, selling oneself is not easy at all. I relied on the questions of a typical job interview but adding more value. I didnt desire to speak in the first person about how awesome I am, so I realized that maybe the best option was that anyone who knows me well, friends and former coworkers do that for me. They had to explain my selling points. I sent them an email telling what my idea was and added some questions, which they had to answer freely. I was very surprised with the comments even though some of them thought it was a little bit risky and crazy. Will a Prezi CV help me stand out? Im not sure if this will work but, I am happy because Im doing my best to get my dream job.  I would be more disappointed if I didnt. How to Plan Your Career Around Digital Disruption Regardless of how hard we try, the reality is that the  world of work is changing on a global scale. Existing job roles will shift to meet the demands of a new work environment, and these shifts will vary across industries, businesses and employees. What we don’t know now, we need to know tomorrow, and what we do know now, we need to use to help us get to tomorrow. There is a lot of discussion around this topic to date and for many, they already have an understanding of the implications  of digital disruption on their careers. But for many others, there are still a lot of questions; a lot of unknowns and  a lot of possibilities. Taking digital disruption into account as part of career planning is imperative, and something that should be done today in preparation for tomorrow. Here  are some great steps you can take to analyse where you are at now, before you start to make any decisions or develop your own career plan. Analyse your existing role Automation can be scary, however, by understanding what aspects of your current role might be automated and what might not be, you will have a greater understanding on where to focus your development. How much of your role is customer facing? How much of your role requires non-linear problem solving? How much of your role is manual and requires a level of human interaction, which cannot be planned or necessarily measured? How many emotional engagements are needed in your role? We do know that robots are being trained to think like humans, but what we have over robots is our level of empathy and emotional connection with other humans. How much of your role requires a high  level of human interaction and emotional engagement? How social are you in your job, and how aware do you need to be of the content of your work  and the wider client environment, to be able to make social decisions? How often do you interact with others? Self-service is a growing trend in the retail industry. The question is,  how much social interaction do we as humans really need to make a sales decision? Grocery shopping on one hand is an autonomous activity; you will select what you like with minimal interaction with an  independent adviser. Beyond this, how often do we make a fashion-based sales decision without some independent guidance? I do believe that businesses will look to automation to minimize operational overhead costs. I  also  believe these  brands will look first to understand consumer behavior,  and make these types of  decisions based on how engaged they need to be with their client base to make the  sale. Analysing these types of  situations can help you understand where you may wish to focus your career planning. How much do you have to sell or negotiate in your role? There are some levels of interaction that can be automated, but there are many others that do not follow a linear problem-solving process, and are therefore  much harder to automate. Take for example the negotiation of a house sale, car sale or supplier contract. The person-to-person interaction required in numerous sales transactions is something that is really important to businesses and individuals in obtaining success and winning a deal. Such interactions can be volatile; decisions can easily be made and then changed at the last minute. These interactions again are hard to handle with an automated process and require a great deal of human  management. There is no doubt that we are reaching a point of transition and  change across all careers; the level of digital disruption that may occur in your own industry  is something that you must be aware of. Before developing or enhancing your career plan, analyse where you feel you are at with your role, and assess what changes may occur. Everyone will find something  different, and the outcome will also vary depending on what each individual wishes to seek in their career. The most important this is not be scared by change. The negative conversations surrounding these changes talk about circumstances that we have no ability to confirm; for this reason, stay in front of the change and realise it might happen to achieve greater control for your own career destiny. What are your biggest tips and learning curves for creating your online course? Answer: Okay, so Lindsey, my recommendation when it comes to creating an online course is to do it unprepared and to do it unplanned, which is kind of funny because this is like a planning course. But every single course, every single membership, everything I have ever put out, Ive always done live. Ive always sold it before it was ready. So this course is a great example of that. I knew that I wanted to create this course and I knew theres so much stuff that is involved with creating a course, right? Theres like the technology and then the time it takes and the outline and then what am I going to talk about?   And then the slides and then the community. And theres a lot of overwhelm that comes with creating a course. So I totally get it. And thats why I put it off for a long time. But then I also knew that if I didnt do this course like right now, like in June, then it wasnt going to happen again until January. So it was one of those that was like, if I dont do this now, Im not going to do it. And thats when I sold it without having any of the modules done so that I could do the modules with you guys and thats what I really recommend doing is like your first live online course. Do it, take notes of what were doing here, like do it with your people because you learn so much. Thats why like Im making myself so available in this course because I want to know every little question and issue. I want to know every question you have. Like every issue that you have with content because Im taking that so that Im taking notes on it so that when I do come out with the actual videos. Ill do videos like I do in CRP where its like five to 10 minutes, you know, professional little lessons. But Im doing it live first. Im taking all the notes, Im taking everything, every question that comes up so that when I do the really professional videos, all of that will be in there. And so basically it makes it a better course.   How I schedule the live course:   So I had Mondays blocked in my calendar when I would come and teach the actual content. Then I really wanted it to be available for Q and. A. So then I put dates for Q and A. Then the day that it started is when I added in the laser coaching sessions. Like that wasnt even part of this course originally. It just kind of went over what, what you would get and what the benefit of the course would be. I did a couple of webinars, a couple of Facebook lives, I think I did one webinar, a Facebook live, and then I emailed my list.   You have to launch! It doesnt have to be perfect. Just get it out there and test it. I didnt know what this was going to work. I didnt know how well this was going to work.   I knew it was a good idea. Just like you guys know if you want to create a course, like you have this idea and you think it would be really good but I had no idea how beneficial this would be.   I just got excited. Then people buy and youre like, Oh, Im on the right track. Oh wow. Now I gotta actually have to create this course.   I know I will be creating the content. I know it will be done. I know it will be a huge accomplishment for me when we get done with this because then it gets easier the next time I do this course its going to be so much easier but I did it. I got it started. Keep it simple for you. It doesnt have to be complicated. Make notes of courses youve taken, courses youre in right now, things Im doing. Do it live first, be available, be so available.   Do not just sell a course and not be available because you also want social proof too. And like I said, booking in those laser coaching sessions, thats me helping you.   So by the end, they have something done. To me, thats really important.
